Season End

It’s early March 30 & we are preparing for our final dog sled trip of the season. A Duke od Edinburgh 5 day Silver Expedition leaves this morning. Trails are still in great condition. Still 2 – 2 1/2 feet of snow in the bush. Not too often any more that we have trails left this time of the year. Last winter at this time the snow was pretty much gone & we had pulled our camps including tents. This year we are just starting to pull camps & it will be a couple weeks at least before the tents will be free of the snow. Some of the guiding staff have already left for other jobs. Most have indicated they will be back another winter. Always great to hear this time of year. As I have indicated this has been a great staff. Dogs are very deserving of some down time. With temperatures above freezing during the day most are stretched out in their yards catching some rays. Spring we start to work with pups. Before the heat of the summer we like to have all pups broken & run several times. Fun runs to build anticipation. Come fall they will remember & know what is happening. Makes fall training so much easier. Pups just seem to step right into the working role right away. Do notice Rene out running pups & evaluating prospects for the race team 2012. Kris as well is spending lots of time witrh pups looking for a couple for his team as well. Have one new litter down. Danika X Jester, both from Lou Serre lines. Very vigorous pups. As well bred Tamarack (Tulip) daughter to Dekker who ran Rene’s team several years. Tamarack put in a good year on Kris’ team. Top lines from proven dogs. A couple other breedings planned for this spring all from the race dogs. Hiking & canoe trips start this spring. In June we are doing an ORCA upgrade for all summer staff to Instructor level. Added feature to all canoe trips is we will be able to do Basic ORCA accreditation. Looking forward to a change of pace before summer programs. Keep your feet on the runners! Paul
